SE A/S Deploys Bridge Technologies Monitoring to WAOO! its Fast-growing Media Service

Danish energy and utility company SE A/S is putting quality of experience at the top of its priorities by using an end-to-end monitoring and analysis system from Bridge Technologies to ensure the integrity of its IPTV and VOD services.

And the company’s approach is reaping rich rewards as subscriber growth far outstrips the performance of other operators in the sector.

SE A/S is Denmark’s third largest energy and utility company, co-operatively owned by its customers and with an impressive commitment to environmentally responsible operations. WAOO! negotiates distribution rights, runs the IPTV middleware, hosts and delivers content, and markets the video services nationally. With the headend, transit and encryption stages of the delivery chain operated by other WAOO! partners, the Bridge Technologies system deployed by SE A/S is critical in ensuring that all services meet quality standards at the handover point. SE A/S uses a combination of Bridge Technologies VB120, VB220 and VB330 probes at all stages of the chain to provide instant diagnosis and analysis of any errors in the stream.

For the true end-to-end monitoring capability that is the only way to be completely sure of providing outstanding user experience, SE A/S deploys Bridge Technologies’ miniaturized user-installable microVB set top box probe to provide accurate continuous monitoring from the customer premises. By using the microVB, SE A/S achieves quicker resolution of problems reported by subscribers, and makes considerable savings on costly site visits by engineers.

“Monitoring all of our twenty distribution router pairs gives us a broad perspective on the performance of our network and the ability to quickly identify regional problems,” said SE A/S Network Analyst Jeppe Schäfer. “Since IPTV multicast is the first service to suffer from faults, our VB120 probes are used as an active tool in identifying misconfigurations, bottlenecks and hardware faults in the network. The VB120s are the stethoscope in our daily operations.”

In addition to its IPTV and VOD services, SE A/S operates cable services from five headends, delivering 60 DVB-C channels, 43 analog TV and 16 FM radio channels. Cable monitoring capability is provided by SE A/S’s monitoring installations at twenty sites, where a combination of VB120, VB220 and VB262 units are used. These, combined with portable VB12-RF units for in-field diagnosis, are used to provide rapid and exact isolation of problems that may arise due to faulty wiring or unshielded connectors in older installations at customer premises.
