Bridge Technologies Shows Mosaic and Multiviewer Created Within Its Widglets API

The distinction between studio and real-time remote production becomes blurred

In time for the virtual IBC2020 this year, Bridge Technologies announces the mosaic and multiviewer capability of its Widglets© API: a revolutionary and flexible approach to production monitoring.

The Widglets API is an HTML5-based embedded video monitor capable of full-motion, colour accurate playback of uncompressed video content with two sub-frame latency in a web browser. This in essence blurs the line between location/event specific on-site production and studio production, and facilitates full creative capabilities within any remote production.

Identifying that the greatest obstacle to effective remote production is the latency introduced when encoding/decoding technologies have to be used in addition to the travelled distance of the signal. The Bridge Technologies Widglets API was developed in order to allow time-critical tasks to be performed remotely, whilst also adding a huge range of analytics functions directly inside the web browser.

When it is simply a case of using a browser screen to access VB440 monitoring data, then any single operator within a studio (or an outside broadcast truck) can have instant, ultra-low latency access to the system without the need for a dedicated workstation and the space needs that come with that.

Flowing on from this ultra-low latency, ultra-low form factor duality are the benefits of orchestration and synchronization. Orchestration becomes a process of simply swapping webpages, facilitating an infinite number of setups. Any known data source can be integrated in order to show real time private statistical data for the benefit of both production crew and channel managers. In relation to synchronization, video, audio and auxiliary data can always be viewed in perfect sync, whether this be from next door or the other side of the planet.

Simen Frostad, Chairman at Bridge Technologies, explained how – whilst grateful that IBC is able to continue, its virtual nature makes it difficult to express just how revolutionary the Multiviewer examples for the Widglets API is:

“Changes in 2020 have brought difficulties to everyone. And whilst we’re immensely glad that IBC can go on in any form, one of our biggest losses of the live event (apart from meeting directly with friends, customers and business partners alike) is the inability to show in person, what this truly ultra-low latency display can do. It’s a real ‘seeing is believing’ experience.”

Frostad concluded: “Anybody who has worked in the cramped quarters of an OB knows that space is at a premium. Imagine full, multiscreen access to insightful, meaningful network performance analytics without the need for any facilitating hardware on-site. Combine this with tactile control by a SmartPanel so that you can get rid of keyboard and mouse altogether. A commentator monitor, an iPad or a workstation, will suddenly manage the task without the need for SDI cabling or router control. The Multiviewer for Widglets API represents true versatility, flexibility and incredible form factor.”

Indeed, as if the flexibility of simple browser-based access was not enough, the incorporation of NMOS IS-07 support and the ability to embed  VB440 Widglets within any custom application provides almost unlimited scope in terms of giving direct access to full-motion, low-latency monitoring together with any function needed, anywhere on a given LAN or WAN structure.
